The objective of the FILARCO project is to develop a new range of ultra-thin, innovative fibers - finer than a micron - to develop fibrous textiles for the air filtration market. The economic challenge of this project consists of proposing new technological solutions (fibers, materials, filters, functions) to assure the feasibility of their industrialization and establish methodologies that will allow industrial partners to improve their conception methods by integrating filtration requirements and improving technical, economic and environmental performance.
This project received financial support from the French government through the FUI appeal for projects (14th call).
- Prototyping of ultra-thin, functional fibers through the bi-component spinning platform.
- Establishment of criteria for choosing polymer couples to associate with bi-component extrusion spinning (physical and rheological properties); development of bio-component fibers that can be ultra-fine (spunlaid extrusion-spinning); development and prototyping of carded nonwovens using these bi-component fibers; development of bi-component spunbond and meltblown nonwovens with ultra-fine filaments.
