Textile is now entering building and construction. Used until now for decoration and coverings, it is a technological response to the issues of energy efficiency and sustainable construction. The Grenelle for the environment is thus a blessing and offers the industry new openings. We estimate that slightly more than 10% of the volume of technical textiles produced worldwide is intended for the building and civil engineering markets; this represents approximately 2 million tonnes. Today, they are considered as the 5th construction material, mainly thanks to their mechanical properties equal or superior to wood, concrete, steel and glass. |
