batiments

With a total surface area of 15,000 m², the CETI (European Centre for Innovative Textiles) consists of workshops (50% surface area), laboratories (1/3 of the area) and offices. Operations are carried out in two buildings that are designed to work together, but which may be easily adapted if necessary.

Building A

This is a tertiary building situated alongside the new east-west Boulevard that shapes the Union development project, linking the Boulevard Gambetta (next to the Tour Mercure) with the Boulevard des Couteaux in Wattrelos. This building will house the CETI general reception facilities (administration offices), meeting and conference rooms, rooms for the CETI general administration services and space for external companies and organisations.

Building B

Facilities for research and prototype activities are gathered together in this building that consists of an industrial hall (technological) incorporating on its south side 3 storeys of offices and laboratories associated with the hall.

From an architectural point of view, features of the project may be seen in:

  • Its clarity of function, with the purpose of both buildings being clearly identifiable,
  • Flexibility of use: large spaces with few load bearing points in the technological hall and open expanses that may be easily divided up in building A,
  • Carefully designed façades, with vertical frame sections representing textile screens. These sections may be tilted on the south and east sides of the tertiary building and act as sun shields.
