FIREX

The FIREX Project is funded by the French Government under the France 2030 investment plan, implemented by ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition).

Two industrial units will be installed within French territory

  • An industrial textile sorting and disassembly unit, led by Tissages de Charlieu and Synergies TLC.

  • An industrial compounding unit located in Lyon, led by MAPEA.

In the initial phase, the FIREX project will focus on textile production offcuts and professional workwear, due to their availability and diverse material compositions. Household textiles will then be addressed at an industrial scale.

Trials carried out on sorting and disassembly equipment, along with their optimisation, will lead to the design of a fully automated sorting and disassembly process. The mechanical recycling pilot demonstrator already operational at CETI, together with MAPEA’s pilot line, will accelerate the development of high-performance recycled yarns, compounds and filaments with reduced environmental impacts.

The transfer of knowledge and expertise to industrial production lines will enable the provision of a complete solution for all stakeholders in the textile value chain, including:

  • Collection, sorting and automated dismantling by LTC / Synergies TLC;

  • Fiber opening (mechanical recycling) and spinning by TDV Industries / LTC, using industrial fibre-opening and spinning equipment implemented at partner subcontractor facilities;

  • Production of recycled raw materials for plastics and textile applications by MAPEA;

  • Fabric manufacturing by LTC and TDV Industries.

In France, end-of-life professional workwear and production offcuts represent a recycling-eligible feedstock of more than 20,000 tonnes per year.
